Ryanair, “the world’s favourite airline”, closes web site to make access 3 times faster

If you’re travelling with world-renowned budget airline Ryanair this coming weekend, you may want to read this:

“Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (14 May) announced that the Ryanair.com website will be closed from 22.00hrs (GMT) on Fri 18 May until midnight Sat 19 May. Flights will be unaffected and Ryanair has already advised passengers due to travel over the weekend (Sat 19 & Sun 20 May) to make sure they check-in online before 16.00hrs (GMT) on 18May.”

According to their official news release, web site users will get (post-closure) “3 times faster access” to Ryanair’s low fares and guaranteed lowest hotel prices, plus SMS text alerts “in rare instances” if delays over 2 hours and widespread disruption.

And these upgraded features of Ryanair.com will actually be free, so it has to be great value!

So, in short, check in early or be slapped with a nasty check-in charge at the airport — clearly, you won’t be able to use the “oh, but the web site was down!” excuse and hope to have any unnecessary charges waived.

I’m sure that after this planned web site outage, everything will just be as hunky-dory as before…
